My consciousness slowly absorbed the sounds and images around me. I’d been summoned. I floated above the scene, an incorporeal presence. Until a creator conjured me into a physical form, I remained an observer of the world around me.
“Hurry, Jinny, we have to finish before we go to school!”
“I just opened the Magic Mix-ature app. What creature should we make, Joe?”
I peered down at two young creatures bent over a tiny device. Were they creators? They were smaller than I imagined.
A bright purple cauldron dominated the screen, and the two creatures swiped at the pictures scrolling side to side below the cauldron.
“Let’s add a blue flower,” Jinny announced. She touched a blue flower with large petals. The picture of the flower dissolved into dust and sprinkled into the cauldron. She circled her finger above the cauldron, and the liquid inside swirled, changing from yellow to sky blue.
“Oh! Let’s add a snowflake so it has ice powers and can shoot ice blasts!” Joe reached across the girl to summon the image of a snowflake. With a press of a finger to the device, the snowflake dissolved into a white powder and drifted into the cauldron. He scribbled his finger over the cauldron, and the potion began to froth as icicles formed around the cauldron’s lip.
“Okay. Just one more ingredient.” The girl reviewed the available inventory and selected a white feather.
“It’s 7:38; we need to go!” A larger creature burst into the room. “Everyone have shoes and backpacks? Okay, out to the car.”
The two creators nodded and dashed outside.
“Look, Joe! It’s making!” The girl held the device out for the boy’s inspection. Joe raced over to watch.
The liquid in the cauldron swirled upward, transforming into a cloud.
I felt a tingling pull.
The cloud dissipated to reveal a small dragon-like creature covered in dark blue fur with small, spiral horns of glittering white and large ears. Small, feathered wings protruded from its back. It sneezed, shooting a tiny puff of snow from its nose.
“It’s so cute!” the girl cooed.
“Ha! It sneezed snowflakes! It has snow boogies!” the boy chortled.
“Let’s go! Into your seats and buckle up!” the large creature commanded.
The boy and girl obeyed, and the car pulled away.
I felt a squeezing sensation against my consciousness, compressing and trapping me. A white mist began to cocoon me.
With a pop, I dropped to the ground. I sat where the vehicle had been moments before. Everything appeared the same yet felt more vibrant and vivid. I stretched my thoughts toward a spiky, green plant beside me.
Its prickles tickled my paw. I had a paw! A dark blue paw! I spun around and tripped, tumbling into the curb. Ouch! I could touch things! I’d been conjured a physical body!
I sprang to my feet and stretched. Beautiful, silver wings unfolded behind me. I arched my back and rose into the air as a gentle breeze swept past. I stretched my toes for the ground, but it was already out of reach. I sniffed at the air and stuck out my tongue to taste the wind. I craned my head to the side and plunged toward the ground.
I landed in a small pile of cold, white fluff. I sniffed it. It tickled my nose. I shook my head to make the sensation go away, but instead, it only built.
“Achoo!” A cold blast from my nose propelled me back several inches. I had snow boogies! The creators would be so pleased!
I trotted up to the house the creators had emerged from and pressed against a small, square flap on the door. With a thud, I tumbled into their home.
I crept into the first room. I scrambled into an oversized, green chair. I raked my paws across the cushion and bit at the stiff padding until it gave way. Now, it would be comfortable.
A delicious scent wafted in from the next room. I needed to investigate.
The smell came from above. I sprang and landed on top of a table. The remnants of some bready morsels lay before me, drenched in a sticky, brown substance. I gulped them down. I looked around for another way I could help the creators. I froze.
Another blue creature with silver wings looked back at me. Did the creators have other creatures like me? Or was this an intruder I needed to vanquish?
I fluttered my wings for additional lift and pounced. Wham! My nose rammed straight into a wall! I tumbled back across the table. I shook my head and refocused on my opponent.
I crouched. He crouched. I twitched my tail. He twitched his tail. I tilted my head. He tilted his head. I opened my mouth and shot an ice blast at him. He matched my movements. I dove under a chair for cover.
Ice raced along the walls, spreading from floor to ceiling. I climbed onto a chair and peeked over the table. The creature was gone, hidden… or perhaps, trapped in my ice blast. I’d won! The creators would be so pleased to see how I protected their home.
I pranced in a circle, chasing my tail and yipping with glee. Small, white flakes drifted from above. One landed on my nose, and I sneezed, shooting snow across the table. I jumped into the powder and rolled onto my back. I wiggled back and forth. It felt cool against my fur and feathers. I took a deep breath and sent an ice blast into the air.
Thick snowflakes drifted down, covering everything in sight and forming piles over the furniture. I leapt from mound to mound, splashing snow everywhere. I marveled at the white landscape I’d created.
Panting, I returned to the green chair and snuggled down to await the creators. Eventually, they would return, and I knew they would be overjoyed to see me!

Yep, they’ll be overjoyed alright. 😊A fun story!
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Um… overjoyed at a destructive snow dragon? Hopefully they’re forgiving!
Haha great fun! I would love to come home and find a little snow creature like this. Great story! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
What a sweet story!
I know the creators will be pleased… but their mom surely won’t be. XD
Thank you! The kids love it and the parents are less than enthused. I find the situation even funnier now that I am on the parent end and praying my kids don’t ask to keep every creature they find in the bushes. 🥴
Clever!
