Havok’s Season 12: Multiversal season comes to a close with this announcement of the December winners. The final theme featured the classic character Ebenezer Scrooge. It was so fun to see all the different takes on Scrooge’s story, especially the ones that brought the character into different genres and timelines far beyond what Charles Dickens would ever have imagined!
Havok publishes flash fiction in five genres, one for each day of the work week: Mystery Monday, Techno Tuesday (sci-fi), Wacky Wednesday, Thriller Thursday, and Fantasy Friday. Only one of those five winners will be selected as “Phenny’s Favorite”!

December’s Featured Character: Ebenezer Scrooge by Charles Dickens
When we thought about public domain characters for December, the perfect choice seemed obvious. The original grinch, the coiner of the “Bah, humbug!” response to Christmas, the inspiration behind Disney’s iconic Scrooge the duck character… Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s amazing how a story written in 1843 could contain so many fantastic speculative elements for our authors to play with.
If you haven’t read the original classic, “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is available for free download or online reading at Project Gutenberg. Here’s a peek at the Ebenezer Scrooge character profile that inspired all the December stories:
