All About Our “Multiversal” Character Art Contest

Havok’s first art contest is based on the character prompts from our “Multiversal” flash fiction contest. The concept is that there are these 12 characters whose lives are very different across the many parallel universes in the “multiverse”. (If you’ve seen the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, you know what we mean.)

  1. Joe Enza – created by Kerry Nietz
  2. Kytt Windthorn – created by Nadine Brandes
  3. Spark Spaulding – created by Ben Wolf
  4. Zaivar Witz – created by Jill Williamson
  5. Phezznibbet Maplebark – created by Rebecca P. Minor
  6. Ethel Grieves – created by Kara Swanson
  7. Miriel Takkenridge – created by Gillian Bronte Adams
  8. Alice (in Wonderland) – created by Lewis Carroll
  9. Harmony Star – created by J. M. Allison
  10. Dorian Gray – created by Oscar Wilde
  11. Luke James (Therrus) – created by Olivia Gratehouse
  12. Ebenezer Scrooge – created by Charles Dickens

The same character might be a private investigator in a 1930s noir city in one universe, and a galactic bounty hunter in a far-future spaceship in another. They have the same name, same personality, just slightly different circumstances and life experiences. But across all the multiverse, they still have their recognizable physical traits, no matter how their fashion, accessories, or surroundings might shift.

The Art Contest

We want to see YOUR interpretation of the character, using the information we provide in the character profile. Pick any character on the list that inspires you. Or submit one entry for each character. Your choice!

Submission window: August 1-31, 2025.

(We will add a button here linking to the Google form for submitting when the contest begins.)

The prizes:

Details To Be Determined… but we can say this much for sure: We will select at least one winner for each of the 12 characters… and we plan to have two “grand prizes”– one for traditional art and one for digital art. Each will receive $100 in art supplies or software!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Please submit your original art illustration depicting one of the 12 characters on our list, based on the descriptions in their profiles.
  • All submissions must be high-res electronic files in JPG or PNG format. Scan or snap a clear photo of art created with traditional physical materials.
  • No limit on entries–submit as many as you like!
  • Your character may be illustrated with any of our five genres in mind: mystery, thriller, humor, fantasy, and science fiction (and any subgenre or mashup of those).
  • You may use any art style you like. Pencil sketch, ink doodle, watercolor, manga, chibi, oil painting, impressionist–anything goes!

A note about formatting: We would like to see portrait dimensions fitting a 6″ x 9″ page. For digital art, use 1800px wide x 2700px high. You are not required to fill the entire space, but keep in mind that winning entries may have the opportunity to be included in our Multiversal anthology.

We will not accept:

  • Art created with the use of AI image generator tools.
  • Art traced or copied from illustrations, photos, videos, etc, that were not created by the entrant.
  • Art that does not follow the submission guidelines.

Please direct any questions to social [at] gohavok.com.
