It’s the final round of 2024’s monthly winners! We enjoyed all the beautiful, thrilling, funny, hopeful, sad, mysterious stories we received for our “Remember When” season. It was our very first year-long contest season, and we’re excited to assemble a truly remarkable anthology from the winning stories. We expect to release that collection in ebook and print in late spring (probably April 2025). Meanwhile, let’s celebrate December’s winning stories!
These stories knocked our warm, fuzzy winter socks off! One for each of our daily genres: Mystery Monday, Techno Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Thriller Thursday, and Fantasy Friday.
Great job, winners! Truly an accomplishment to be proud of, and a great way to wrap up a year of publishing flash fiction.
Now Featuring Havok Season 12: Multiversal
With the arrival of January, we have launched into our first month of another year-long contest season: Multiversal. Here at Havok we love trying new things, presenting authors with new challenges that lift their skills to higher levels. So we gave authors a character prompt to work with this time.
Imagine it, dear readers! Every month, you’ll see a different aspect, a different interpretation of the same character from many different authors. It’s like nothing we’ve ever seen published before, and we hope you’ll find it as delightful as we have during the selection and editing process.
January’s Featured Character: Joe Enza
Joe Enza is the brainchild of acclaimed science fiction author Kerry Nietz. Kerry did Havok the honor of writing our very first published story when we launched in 2019: A Symphony of Words. He has twelve speculative novels in print, along with two novellas, a handful of short stories, and a non-fiction book, FoxTales. Kerry’s novel A Star Curiously Singing won the Readers Favorite Gold Medal Award for Christian Science Fiction and is notable for its dystopian, cyberpunk vibe in a world under sharia law. It is often mentioned on “Best of” lists.
Among his writings, Kerry’s most talked about is the genre-bending Amish Vampires in Space. AViS was mentioned on the Tonight Show and in the Washington Post, Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly. Newsweek called it “a welcome departure from the typical Amish fare.”
Here’s a peek at the Joe Enza character profile that authors used to spark the stories you’ll see coming out all this month:
